Community Involvement

Financial Contribution
As a non-profit society, HYC uses all of the money it collects to foster its purposes. HYC contributes directly to the Village of Harrison Hot Springs revenue base through its lease payments for the water lot it occupies adjacent to the former Harrison Ranger Station. Furthermore all additions, improvements and maintenance it makes to both mooring docks and the HYC Club House (former Ranger Station Maintenance Facilities) will ultimately be legated to the Village Of Harrison should the HYC vacates the premises or dissolve. HYC also donates money to the Kent - Harrison Rescue Unit and the Canada day Fireworks Display. HYC also finances and maintains mooring buoys at various spots on Lake Harrison for the general public. HYC contributes significantly to the Long Island Forestry Park through annual donations of funds, material and volunteer labour. On average HYC injects approximately $62,500 annually into the community.
Canada Day
For many years HYC has been an avid contributor to the Canada celebrations at the Village of Harrison Hot Springs. HYC donates money towards the Canada Day fireworks display and provides a float for the local evening parade. HYC members also provide the Canada Day Light Parade immediately preceding the closing fireworks display. Click here to view photo collage.
HYC Out Station - Long Island Bay
In association with the BC Forest Service, HYC donates money, materials, and volunteer man hours to maintain this public Recreation Site that is only accessible by boat. HYC also wants to thank the Harrison Lake Poker Run Society for their recent financial contribution to the maintenance of this beautiful recreational site which is used as a check point for their annual Poker Run. HYC Boaters Day
An annual event hosted by the HYC with the participation of the Kent-Harrison Search & Rescue Unit, the Harrison Fire Department, The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Valley Squadron, Gravity Towing and “Big Red” Fire System Company. This public event affords the Harrison Lake Boaters an opportunity to rub elbows with emergency workers, safety personnel and marine instructors. Free boat inspections are available. Boaters can also write the Canadian Coast Guard Challenge exam. Profits from this event are donated to the Kent-Harrison Search & Rescue Unit. Click here to view photo collage.
Marine Courses Given
Through our association with Valley Squadron, Harrison Lake boaters are given the opportunity to enroll locally in a 13 weeks CPS Boating Course at HYC. The Maritime Radio Course and a DSC endorsement for it were also offered locally this year. Click here to view more information regarding marine courses available from Valley Squadron.
Caring for the Environment
HYC provides stewardship of the environment of Harrison Lake. Lakeshore clean-up of its allocated water lot and its immediate surroundings is a constant priority. In association with Langley Diving, HYC contributes to the beautification of the local aquatic environment by lending their facility for their underwater clean-up.
