Joining the Harrison Yacht Club
There is magic in boating. It brings peace to the soul and it provides a continuing source of rewards, satisfaction and contentment. This boating magic flows from many sources: the boat you choose, the family and friends that share your time aboard, the waters that you sail and the port that you call home. The HYC will not select your boat for you. It will however provide you with a first class moorage slip, a family orientated yacht club, and friends that will eventually become extended family members. The waters of Lake Harrison will offer your family many adventures. You will also be able to access the ocean by navigating down the Harrison and Fraser rivers. You will also enjoy the HYC out-station at Long Island Bay and share reciprocal moorage with many other affiliated yacht clubs. The HYC will further offer you numerous social activities and cruises throughout the year. Sail boat races will also be offered during the boating season.
HYC is a self help family orientated yacht club. As an HYC member you will be expected to tailor your conduct and deportment to foster our yacht club family atmosphere. You will also be expected to actively participate in its social activities and events throughout the year. To maintain our administrative and operational cost down you will also be required to partake in our occasional HYC worker bees parties. Eventually you will be requested to volunteer for an HYC Executive position. Remember that HYC is not a commercial marina. It is a non-profit yacht club organization that relies entirely on its membership’s active participation to strive and prosper. If you think that HYC is what you and your family want then please read our HYC Members Booklet to gain deeper insights into the HYC Constitutions, Administration, By-laws and Schedules governing the HYC. Once you have done that please read our HYC Rules & Regulations document to confirm that you will abide by them.
If you are still interested in joining the HYC, secure an HYC sponsor in accordance with the guidance provided in the HYC Members Booklet articles 1.01.06; 2.01.10.2; and Schedule E. Address all membership queries to the HYC Vice Commodore, the chair of the Membership Committee.
The HYC membership adopted a resolution at its 2008 AGM that imposed a one year moratorium on new HYC membership applications. This resolution was reluctantly adopted to allow the HYC Executive and an AGM appointed Membership Committee time to analyze the present maximum capacity of our clubhouse and mooring facilities and come up with recommendations to resolve the recognized HYC membership overcapacity. In the interim, new HYC application are dated and place on a chronological waiting list. New applicants can expect a 1 to 2 year waiting period.
